I Want More Info!Since I was a kid, I've always been active. I enjoy working out and eating well to fuel my body properly. Exercise has always made me feel strong physically and mentally, and it empowers me to build the body I love. Once I found out that we were expecting, I started to panic. I had so many questions about what I could still safely and comfortably do while pregnant. Could I still lift barbells? How much was too much? Was there a limit to how much I was allowed to lift? The types of lifts I could perform? Could I run? Could I row? As a long-time student of fitness, I did what I always did: I started researching and added my analytically trained chemist of a husband to do the same. What I found was limited and vague. It was recent and shallow and without a lot of history to back it up. It honestly sucked. I found an article here….a journal article about Olympic athletes there. There was no consistency, no clear answers, and certainly no central source of information on prenatal or postpartum exercise. My husband and I were consuming as many prenatal books as we could, and Emily Oster provided a few studies to ease my worries but we felt uneducated and underwhelmed. As a pregnant mom, of course I wanted to keep true to who I was, to nourish my self, but if I'm being honest, my number one goal during pregnancy was to give my son the best start I possibly could during these 9 months. Of course I was going to do this in a way where I could take care of myself, but he was my priority. One resource I did find through my research was ProNatal® Fitness, a prenatal and postpartum fitness education resource, to help guide me on what was advised to do during pregnancy.
I just wanted to help others feel less vulnerable during such a critical time!
While pregnant, I recognized there was a large gap of information and education for prenatal and postpartum women. Almost 3 years later, this hasn't changed. I navigated my fitness during pregnancy by researching and then gently experimenting with these different exercise methods myself. After experiencing all of this first-hand and getting the opportunity to work with prenatal and postpartum mamas, I have found that a lot of my clients don't know what to do or what is safe to do during and after pregnancy. Ultimately, I decided to pursue a ProNatal® Exercise Specialist certification to help guide and train prenatal and postpartum clients to be their absolute best. With my education, experience, and expertise, I lead women to help them perform safe routines including breathwork, core activation & restoration, proper lifting techniques, and pelvic floor & total body strengthening movements.
I'm a mama of 1 incredible boy, Jaxson and two Yorkies (Kitty & Albie). I'm a wife to an incredibly hard working & busy hubby, Mike (who built this website from scratch) who is my "idea man" and supports me in all my fitness and career aspirations. As a family, we love taking advantage of being outside and playing in the sunshine of Colorado. My goal is to help you build the body and the confidence to be your best self and your best mom while preparing you for life's wonderful journey and helping you get back to doing what you love. I look forward to working out with you soon!
I want to share something really personal because it has truly changed my life. I started working with Janelle Mistarz when I was in my first trimester. I had been wanting to try a personal trainer for a long time, but every time I worked out on my own I would get awful migraines afterward. I honestly felt scared to try again because I had worked with a couple of trainers in the past and didn't have a good experience.
But Janelle… she changed everything for me.
From our very first session, she was so supportive, so personal, and so intentional with every exercise. She adjusted everything to exactly what my body needed, especially during pregnancy. And the most incredible part is that I haven't had a single migraine since I started training with her. Not one.
I feel stronger, healthier, and more connected to my body than I have in years. I'm honestly sad I didn't start this sooner, but I'm so grateful I said yes when I did.
If you've been thinking about working with a trainer, I can't recommend her enough. Her pricing is very reasonable, and she works both online and in person here in Boulder County.
I'm so grateful for her and so thankful for how much she has helped me feel good in my body again. 💛
